Smart Metering means a smaller carbon footprint. It means bigger savings and more frequent usage information. However, the true benefits of Smart Meters can only be seen when using service management and asset management solutions. Both companies partnered with IBM to work as a smarter utility - implementing technology that truly changes the way they operate. " Our Smart Meter project is going very well. We've rolled out 500000 out of 850000 meters, and we're ahead of schedule. CenterPoint Energy has a Smart Metering project going on where we are implementing, installing 2.2 million meters across our service area. We have about 230000 of those meters installed so far, together with the communications infrastructure and all of the technology and IT systems that go along with that. One of the benefits that we have already experienced because of the Advance Metering Project is the elimination of over of 50000 truck rolls to customers' homes. We're on our way to reducing about 8000 truck rolls a day at the end of the project. In the future, we won't be needing to send out meter readers to do meter readings and get information for billing.
